Financial Assistance and Emotional Support

Family Assistance Fund

Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation (NNCCF) assists families with everyday costs such as household living expenses, mortgage payments, rent, food, utilities, travel expenses related to treatment, medical expenses, insurance deductibles, uncovered procedures and additional expenses the family might need assistance with during the child’s treatment.

Currently, we serve families with children who are younger than 19 years and are in treatment for or are in follow-up care for cancer in northern Nevada and the eastern Sierra, including Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Quincy and Susanville, Calif. Our southern service border is Tonopah, Nev.  While all applications must be received prior to the child’s 19th birthday, if medical treatment is ongoing, NNCCF will continue to assist families until the child is 21.

NNCCF Family Application

Family Care Package

When a family is referred to NNCCF, a personalized family care package is immediately created with the family’s needs in mind. Contents inside the package include a gas card, a grocery card, books about childhood cancer, a gift for the patient, gift(s) for the sibling(s) and anything else that might apply. In addition to the package, a custom fleece snuggle blanket and snuggle bunny are made especially for the child with love by NNCCF volunteers. Patients love their snuggle blankets and bunnies and usually they become a part of the child’s life, accompanying them to treatments, scans, appointments, etc.

Emotional Support

A childhood cancer diagnosis is a family diagnosis and can be devastating to patients, parents and siblings.  NNCCF provides emotional support through family counseling at no cost to the family.  We work with a number of therapists that will meet with the parents, child in treatment or siblings and work through challenges or concerns.

Meeting and talking with other families that have a child with cancer can be an effective way to cope with difficult situations that arise in the cancer journey.  NNCCF offers quarterly family outings to help provide an opportunity to meet others and allow the child in treatment, their siblings and parents to enjoy an aqctivity.  Sometimes families forget – or are unable -  to do the simple things like go to a baseball game, go fishing, go miniature golfing, etc.  NNCCF  has community partners that provide these outings for our families at no cost.  For more information on family outings, click here.
