Second annual Basketball Competition: North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Sierra Fire enjoyed a fun night out Dec. 11. Teams were treated to private dinner at the Freight House District followed by the Bighorns game. Wild West Casino Extravaganza, held by Microsoft Licencing in its cafetorium on Oct. 7, 2010. All proceeds from the No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em and Black Jack tournament benefited Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation in support of programs and services for local childhood cancer.
Third annual Reel Kids, Real Living Fly-Fishing Retreat for families facing childhood cancer was held on Aug. 7, 2010 at the Pleasant Valley Fly-Fishing Preserve in Markleeville, Calif. Hosted by the High Sierra Fly Casters and NNCCF, the retreat offered NNCCF families a day in the beautiful outdoors, away from hospitals, treatments and other responsibilities. Families were matched with a professional fly-fishing “buddy” who taught them the basics of catch and release fly-fishing. A closing ceremony allowed patients and their families to share fishing stories and enjoy the company of others who have faced similar situations with their child.
First annual Firefighters Poker Pedal, organized by members of the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District IAFF Local #2139 Incline Village and Crystal Bay firefighters, was held on July 31, 2010. It clearly was a success as they helped to raise $1,000 that went to NNCCF. Starting at the Great Basin Brewery on South Virginia Street, participants rode a 9-mile loop, stopping at participating eatery and breweries – Clary’s Bar & Grill, Ceol Irish Pub, Foley’s and Silver Peak Restaurant. Black Rock Bicycles donated a cruiser bike for the winning male and female poker hands.
Sixth annual Poker Run, hosted by Gonads-n-Strife Bicycle Club, was held on May 16 to benefit NNCCF. High hand won a fat tire cruiser. All kinds of swag…bicycle, clothing, gift certificates and bike stuff were given to participants. Many thanks to Great Basin Brewing Co. for its hospitality.
Lipstick Fashion Lounge & Salon Grand Opening was held on May 20, 2010. This was a very fashionable spring celebration at which guests had an opportunity to send a postcard kiss to a child in need with their donation to NNCCF.
All in for Childhood Cancer Poker Tournament: One hundred and sixty players went “All in for Childhood Cancer” at our third annual charity poker tournament held at the Grand Sierra Resort on April 30, 2010. The No-Limit Texas Hold ‘em tournament raised more than $27,000 in support of programs and services for local childhood cancer families. Players from northern Nevada and northern California enjoyed a pre-event VIP Reception hosted by BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery. Generous corporations donated various giveaways for players as they competed to win cash prizes and 20 tickets inside a Reno Aces Skybox for the Aces vs. Sacramento game. The event was sponsored by Barrick Gold North America, Allied Washoe Petroleum, Team Edward Jones, Granite Construction and Dr. Robin White. Congratulations to the top winners:

We have raised a combined total of $768,000 throughout the years. At our sixth annual event in 2011, we shaved 285 heads. More than 1,500 people joined our shavees at the Coconut Bowl to prove that although the economy is tough it won’t stop them from finding a cure for childhood cancer. The 2010 top fundraisers are as follows: Individual Shavees - 1st Place – Mark Creighton raised $5,225.00, 2nd Place – Dr. Quinn Pauly raised $3,195.00, 3rd Place – Bailey Johnson raised $3,105.00. Teams - 1st Place – Kylee’s Wish raised $36,483.10, 2nd Place – Team BING! – Microsoft Licensing raised $13,250.00, 3rd Place – Zugel’s Army raised $9,518.57.
Jan. 31, 2010 – The Mapes Sky Room Party – Ten years after the demolition of the historic Mapes, a fundraiser celebrating Reno’s rich heritage and promising future was held. Proceeds benefited NNCCF and Truckee Meadows Historical Trust. Approximately 250 guests attended the event held at the Siena Hotel Ballroom. The evening included appetizers, silent auction, historic art and ,memorabilia, a no-host bar, dancing and live entertainment.
The NNCCF annual Family Holiday Party was held on Dec. 9 at the Eldorado Convention Center in Reno. Two hundred and seventy people from all over northern Nevada attended. There was an amazing buffet dinner, drinks and an ice cream station to fill hungry tummies. The patients and siblings enjoyed various craft stations and a special visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus from whom they each received a present. For the second year in a row, the Reno Photobooth Company brought a photo booth, which was very popular among our 85 families in attendance. NNCCF extends sincere appreciation to the Eldorado Hotel and Casino for sponsoring the event. The room was amazingly decorated and, as usual, the staff was incredible! With thanks to all of our volunteers who helped create special memories for our families.

Brews & Bows was hosted by Brookfield School on Nov. 12. It was a fantastic evening of beer and wine tasting, live music, delicious food, fabulous shopping, a raffle and silent auction with proceeds benefiting NNCCF and Brookfield School.
Reno Magazine presented Perfect Pairings on Nov. 5 at Back of the House, 800 W. Second St. in Reno, featuring an evening of great wine and food pairings to benefit NNCCF.
Annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Day Event was held on Sept. 12, 2009. More than 400 people attended the event, which was held at Pickett Park across from Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. The free event featured a pancake breakfast, speakers, resource booths and kid’s activities, including games, prizes, bounce houses and more. With thanks to our sponsors, Renown Children’s Hospital and the City of Reno Neighborhood Advisory Board Ward 3.
Lambda Psi Rho’s Hoops for Hope was held on Sept. 19, 2009 at Lombardi Gym at UNR. The event was full of friendly competition which supported local families.
Gonads-N-Strife Bicycle Club in Reno presented its fifth annual Bicycle Poker Run on Sept. 27, 2009 to benefit NNCCF. The event started and ended at Great Basin Brewing Co. They sure did know how to put on a fun event complete with live music and a silent auction.
The NNCCF Fifth Anniversary Golf Tournament was held at Montreux on Sept. 28, 2009. Participants enjoyed a great day of golf, food, libations and fun. The event raised $70,000 to support NNCCF annual programs and services.
