Katie was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of pediatric bone cancer, when she was 17 years old. Throughout her 6 years of fighting fiercely, she found joy in creating artwork to raise awareness for childhood cancer.
While fighting Ewing’s Sarcoma, Katie made it her mission to live a limitless life. She spent her days traveling to National Parks, seeing as many concerts as possible, and connecting with everyone she met. She especially loved connecting with her fellow childhood cancer Warriors and supporting them however possible. Whether it was in the crafting world, the childhood cancer community, her Warrior Family, School, and Church friends, or a stranger on the street, Katie built a community of strength. She continues to inspire us all to #LiveLifeLikeKT.
Katie’s mom, Lynn said, “We don’t know what we would have done without NNCCF over the past six years. They made it so we could focus on Katie and living life throughout this journey, rather than worrying about finances. NNCCF is family to us.”

Every Spring since 2013, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office takes on the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District at the Annual Guns and Hoses Golf Tournament at LakeRidge Golf Course in support of Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation.
In 2011, a worried father took his little girl to the hospital after she scraped her knees. While at the hospital, he saw a brave young cancer warrior and his parents from across the waiting room. After discussing what he could do to help children like this young boy with his daughter’s nurse, he found NNCCF and the “Heroes and Hooligans” golf tournament was born!
Every summer, these hooligans turned heroes come together for a golf tournament to benefit the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. Thank you to the event organizers, Nikki and Robert, for 14 beautiful years on the green!
Pulling For Our Little Heroes is an annual CrossFit and Weightlifting competition where the community comes together and raises money to help families who have children in the fight of their lives. All money raised goes towards the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation.

In 2013, Natalia was diagnosed with cancer, and within a few short months, she lost her battle at the age of 11. Her parents, Raul and Monica, the owners of El Adobe Cafe, are keeping her memory alive by helping raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer in northern Nevada. Thank you to all participating restaurants who gave back in Natalia’s honor on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024, to make a difference in the lives of local childhood cancer warriors!
