Sophie Boel originally moved to Reno, NV, in 2016 for a new job and is thrilled that it’s become her permanent home since. Sophie graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a dual degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering along with Engineering and Public Policy in May of 2013. She has worked as an engineer and project manager, first in oil and gas and then in technical commercial construction prior to battery recycling, which is her current field. Though originally moving to Reno to work on the construction and engineering team at Tesla’s Gigafactory 1, she now serves as Redwood Materials’ federal and external affairs manager. Sophie has spent much of her life volunteering with inner-city communities along with children and adults with special needs. She originally joined forces with NNCCF to be more involved in her new community and is continuously inspired by all the work NNCCF does for these little fighters and their families; she is proud to have been a board member since 2016. Sophie and her husband Dan are new parents to their son Carson, and whenever she’s not focusing on all things baby or working, Sophie enjoys spending time with her dog, running, hiking, cooking, and seeing live music.
