Press release –
(Reno, NV) – Mike Krukow, the Emmy Award-Winning broadcaster and former major league pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, sent a heartwarming video to local children battling cancer. Krukow, a friend of the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation (NNCCF), filmed himself reading a children’s book to lift the spirits of children and their families who are currently undergoing cancer treatments and in isolation, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I appreciate the opportunity to share one of my favorite stories with the little ones and their families. I hope to bring them happiness during this time and make them feel less isolated,” said Krukow. “I know these children and their families are already facing tough times and the least I can do is bring more joy to their family.”
The video was posted today on Facebook: www.facebook.com/nvkidscancer
It is also available on the NNCCF website: www.nvchildrenscancer.org/familyresources
Two years ago, Mike and his wife, Jennifer Krukow, were inspired by the efforts of San Francisco Giants pitcher, Buster Posey and his wife, Kristen Posey, to support childhood cancer patients and pediatric cancer research. The Krukows have put their heart and support, as well as that of the Giants, behind the efforts of the northern Nevada community and NNCCF to support children battling cancer. They created A Giant Event for Childhood Cancer, along with NNCCF and supporters, to raise funds for childhood cancer research and local children. The next event is scheduled for fall of 2020.
Krukow is assisting NNCCF’s efforts to provide comfort to families and foster ways for local children to feel connected and less isolated. NNCCF is providing services at full capacity to assist families with financial and emotional support. NNCCF is using multimedia communications, social media, and virtual events, to assist its mission and serve local families.

(Reno, NV) – The Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation (NNCCF) is pleased to announce the completion of an office renovation project that took place during the COVID-19 closure. SILegacy Floor Finishing, and President Jim Farley, installed new vinyl flooring in common areas of NNCCF’s 3000-square-foot office space. The $10,000 flooring donation will help assist NNCCF in keeping a clean and sterile environment for children and families served by the foundation.
“During this time of economic strain in our community, we are grateful to supporters who have assisted us not only during this time to prepare our building and office, but to help our families remain safe,” said Shirley Folkins-Roberts, NNCCF executive director.
NNCCF received additional support from partners to improve the upkeep of the building and office space from Alston Construction and Victory Woodworks. The updates to the office will help provide a cleaner environment for children who have compromised immune systems. SILegacy Floor Finishing previously assisted NNCCF in 2019 by relaying flooring in two offices, and laid original flooring in the building in 2015.
During the COVID-19 office closure, NNCCF has operated remotely and at full capacity serving local families affected by childhood cancer with financial and emotional support programs. NNCCF recognizes partners in the community who have donated in-kind goods or services to support its programs. Donors include Dolan Auto Group, Angel Flight, Mike Krukow, Norwalk Furniture, Peterbilt Truck Parts & Equipment, Nevada Face Mask Warriors, Dotty Molt Photography, Love Your Melon, Misty Shore, MNG Partners, Cumulus Media Group, and Walton’s Funerals & Cremations.

It’s the start of a new year and many of us turn our attention to self-improvement and New Year resolutions. On top of being your best self, we encourage you to jumpstart the year by helping improve the quality of life of local children battling cancer. So here’s the question – What can you do in 2018?
At the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation (NNCCF), we strive to release the emotional and financial burden childhood cancer has on affected children and their families. Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the United States and we strive to change that statistic. With your support, our nonprofit can provide crucial support for local children and advocate for a cure and better treatment.[/one_half_last]
To help you host your own fundraiser and become a Community Partner, here are five major tips that will start you off on the right foot.
When you are brainstorming your fundraiser, the best thing to do is stop by our office and take a tour. Not only can we give you information about successful fundraisers in the past, we can equip you with posters, pins and other materials to enrich your event.
Every charitable event needs goals and a purpose! Considering the purpose of your event is to raise money for NNCCF, your event may also help you reach out to a new network or gain publicity for your business. It is best to set goals for funds raised, awareness, social impact and media coverage. Your fundraising event should be exactly what you intend it for and setting goals will help you keep it on track.
There’s the saying “Spend money to make money” and we want you to be prepared with a realistic budget. When you are setting your budget, keep in mind that you may have expenses i.e. your time spent, materials created or renting a venue. The general rule of thumb is that you deduct expenses from funds raised and then donate the proceeds.
Once you fill out our Community Partner Agreement Form, your event will go up on our website. When we include your event, it is always helpful to have logos, photos, flyers or something that gives a visual to your event. We also encourage you to tag us on social media @nvkidscancer. It helps legitimize your fundraiser and social media is a powerful tool to reach a large audience.
When you complete your event, we fully expect you come into our office and celebrate! We are grateful for your efforts and any donated amount deserves a pat on the back. NNCCF is not federally funded, so each gifted dollar is imperative to helping local children with cancer.
